• Android 17 with ColorOS 17 is live now, and it replaces OxygenOS on OnePlus flagships. The rollout kicked off October 22, a week before the planned October 29 start.
  • ColorOS 17 brings a cleaner UI, smoother animations, a redesigned Quick Settings panel, better app switching, plus AI that flags fake voices on scam calls and face swaps on video calls.
  • Six devices get it first: OnePlus 15, OnePlus 15R, OnePlus 13, OnePlus 13s, OnePlus 13R and OnePlus Pad 4. More models will follow in stages from November into early 2027.

OnePlus didn't wait. It's pushing Android 17 early to six phones and tablets, and it's ditching OxygenOS for OPPO's ColorOS 17 while it's at it. That's the biggest software shakeup the brand's done in years.

India's rollout is staged and early. OnePlus 15 and Pad 4 led on October 22, then OnePlus 13, 13s and 15R joined October 26. Global usually trails India by 1 to 3 weeks for OnePlus. To check your phone, head to Settings > System & Updates > Software update and tap check for updates. Carrier doesn't really matter here, Jio, Airtel and Vi won't hold it up, but the batch system means some of you will wait a bit longer.

What's New in ColorOS 17 on Android 17

Here's the big deal. OxygenOS is out, ColorOS 17 is in. OnePlus and OPPO already share a ton of code, so you won't feel lost. But this locks in a single software direction for both brands.

Visual Changes and Performance

  • Refreshed UI with a cleaner look
  • Smoother animations everywhere
  • Redesigned Quick Settings panel
  • Better app handling when you jump between apps

AI Features

  • AI that catches fake voices on scam calls
  • AI that spots face swaps on video chats
  • More AI tools are in the build, but not every device gets every feature

Update not showing? OnePlus pushes big updates in batches. If you don't see it, your device, region or current version just isn't in this wave. Try again in a few days. And if something breaks after, drop feedback in the OnePlus Community app or dial #800#. IT folks, test your auth and device management apps before you roll it out widely.

Should You Update Right Away?

Update right now if: you've got one of the six eligible devices, you want the new ColorOS 17 look and those AI call protections, and you've already backed up.

Hold off for a few days if: you depend on banking, UPI, VoLTE/VoWiFi or work apps and you'd rather let early adopters find the bugs, or your phone isn't showing the update yet. It'll come as the rollout widens. And yeah, big OS jumps can make battery and app behavior a little weird while things settle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why am I not receiving the Android 17 update yet?

It's a staged rollout. Timing comes down to your device, region and current software version, so some eligible phones get it later than others.

Will the update affect performance or battery on older models like OnePlus 13R?

AI feature support varies by device, so your mileage will differ.

Can I roll back to OxygenOS after installing ColorOS 17?

You'll want to back up first, just in case.

Will I lose data when installing Android 17 with ColorOS 17?

Back up before you install any major OS update, that's just good practice.

Are all ColorOS 17 AI features available in India?

Scam call voice detection and video face swap detection are confirmed, but availability shifts a bit by device.

Final Thoughts

OxygenOS had a good run, but OnePlus has made its bet. ColorOS 17 is the future, and if you're on a 13 or 15 series phone you've got no reason to cling to the old skin. Get the backup done and hit install when it lands.
