Benefits and key features
The pack provides unthrottled access to Jio's Standalone 5G network for the validity period, unlike regular data add-ons that come with a fixed allowance. Jio says the booster is designed for bandwidth-intensive activities that typically consume large amounts of mobile data.
Use cases include high-resolution video streaming with uncapped throughput for ultra-high-definition and 4K content across video-on-demand services, live sports broadcasts and video sharing platforms without automatic drops in resolution or buffering. The 5G access also aims to deliver reduced latency and lower ping for competitive online multiplayer gaming.
Other cited uses are large-scale data transfers and cloud backups, with high uplink speeds for rapid transfers of large payloads including device-wide backups, system image updates, work directories and full-resolution video archives. It also supports large file and asset downloads such as game installation packages, software updates, operating system installs and offline media catalogues.
The pack supports mobile hotspot tethering, allowing users to connect secondary devices such as laptops and tablets for remote work, video conferencing, heavy web sessions and browsing.
Requirements
The ₹15 offering is an add-on booster and requires an active Jio prepaid base plan. Users also need a 5G-compatible smartphone operating within an active Jio True 5G coverage zone to use the benefit.
Without a compatible handset and 5G coverage at the location, the unlimited 5G benefit cannot be used. The 24-hour validity makes it a short-duration option rather than a replacement for a regular monthly recharge.
How it compares with existing Jio boosters and rivals
The new ₹15 booster joins Jio's existing unlimited data boosters. According to Beebom, Jio currently offers a ₹49 pack with unlimited 5G data for 1 day with 25GB high-speed data, after which speeds drop to 64 Kbps, and a ₹11 pack with unlimited 5G data for 1 hour with 10GB high-speed data, after which speeds drop to 64 Kbps.
It is not yet clear how much high-speed data the new ₹15 plan will offer before any throttling, if applicable.
The ₹15 pack is positioned as the most affordable unlimited 5G data booster among telcos in India. According to 91mobiles, Airtel offers unlimited data for 24 hours at ₹49, but this is for 4G data and not unlimited 5G, while Vi does not have any equivalent data packs. 91mobiles also notes that all three telcos bundle unlimited 5G with select recharge plans, and the new Jio pack functions as a booster for users who do not have an active 5G plan and want high-speed connectivity for a limited time.
